Reasons for US Leading in COVID Cases and Deaths

Of the 14 countries with over 100 million in population, the United States leads in COVID-19 Cases and Deaths on a per capita basis.
Two explanations:
Ideological - a Populist Nationalist elected to high office is almost always incompetent, even criminally negligent, when faced with a national crisis.
Theological - the Almighty is punishing us for having a Great Deceiver in the White House.

GOP power politics wrong for pandemic

On Inauguration night, 2009, Sens. DeMint, Kyl and Coburn, and Reps. Cantor, McCarthy and Ryan met with other Republican Party leaders and plotted to do everything to stymie the new Democratic administration.

We are in the same situation now (“Biden and Senate might clash,” Nov. 12), and the Republicans are already showing that they will sacrifice our country in order to reassert their power.

Unlike 2009, here in 2020-21, we are in the midst of a tragic health crisis. A quarter-million Americans have already died from COVID-19, mainly due to Republican mismanagement. How many more will die because of Republican power politics?

Religions are above the law

The day before Thanksgiving, the newly minted Religious Right majority on the U.S. Supreme Court went out of its way to declare that churches and synagogues can violate health regulations as a matter of religious freedom. The consequences to the rest of society do not bother those certain houses of worship nor the five Justices.
These religious groups choose to use questionable legal means to assert their power. But there are ways to stop them.
One is to take away their tax-free status. They should not be allowed to create an environment that is dangerous to us all.
The other is that their members not receive any form of governmental health support, e.g., hospitalization, nursing care, or Medicare, for health conditions brought on by their irresponsible behavior.
None of us should be paying because those individuals think they have religious privilege.

[Trump is a tax dodger and a draft dodger]

Forty-six days before the presidential election of 2020, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died, and Pres. Trump will try to fill that vacancy.

When Judge Merrick Garland was nominated eight months before the election of 2016, no action was taken by the Senate.

The difference is that of political advantage.

The Constitution states that the Senate shall provide “Advice and Consent” on nominations such as judicial ones.

(Now) Justice Kavanaugh once wrote that it should take about six months for the nomination/confirmation process.

Both nomination cases are a betrayal of the Constitution and demonstrate a lack of character by all those who advocate and support such courses of action.

Loyalty to the Constitution and tests of character are there to be seen.

Pres. Trump and Senator McConnell should each be asked “Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?”.

US and German Management of COVID-19

Both Germany and the United States have federal republic systems of government. Yet their handling of the COVID-19 Crisis has produced very different results.

Using a recognized Coronavirus database [worldometers.info/coronavirus/], it is possible to statistically measure the effectiveness of the national governments’ responses.

As of July 31, 2020, Germany had 211,060 cases and 9,226 deaths caused by the coronavirus. The US had 4,755,622 cases and 157,722 deaths.

Comparing the Cases and Deaths based on ‘per million of population’, you will find that Germany has only 17.5% of Cases and 23.0% of Deaths of the US.

Applying these percentages to Total Cases and Deaths, it can be determined that the US has had 3,923,388 more Cases and 121,274 more Deaths than if they had been managed using German methods of combatting COVID-19.

Kneeling for the National Anthem - A Sign of Respect

The act of kneeling before a person or object has traditionally been interpreted as a sign of respect, obedience, or supplication.
When an athlete kneels during our National Anthem, there are all too many who have chosen to read the opposite meaning into the gesture and claim it is disrespectful.
To counter these errant claims, the athletes could kneel just before or just after the anthem and stand during the anthem.
Only the most prejudiced people could then interpret the kneeling the wrong way.
