President Trump has shut down a good part of the government
in an attempt to extort $5 billion from U.S. taxpayers to build an outdated,
ineffective Border Wall.
Congress should pass a bill appropriating an initial outlay
of $5 billion to plan on building a modern, high tech border fence system (an
‘E-Fence’).
This ‘fence’ would utilize motion detectors and other
sensors, cameras, networked apprehension and other systems, backed by an
enhanced Border Patrol. Such a system would stop human border crossers and
drones.
The Coast Guard should also be built up to apprehend those
coming up the Pacific Coast seaway and the Gulf of Mexico.
These methods may not have great symbolic value, but they
would be more effective, and Americans value getting the job done over a
showpiece.
