The Second
Amendment is about the collective right of the people “to keep and bear Arms.”
It is not about the individual’s right to do so.
This right
is in order to maintain the “security of a free State.” This is to be done
through a “well regulated Militia,” trained and organized, and excluding the
village idiot and the town drunk.
Considering
the existential threats emanating from East Asia, the cities and counties on
the West Coast should each have an authorized, organized militia, for
protection in time of war or other disaster.
Those who
want to bear arms will do so to protect their fellow citizens, not themselves.
