The present
brouhaha over “anchor babies” (a pejorative term) and immigration policy goes
back to the “Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965.”
That act gave
immigration preference to, among others, relatives of U.S. citizens and
permanent residents. The basis for this
was for family reunification.
Eliminate that
categorical preference and most of the issue goes away.
The candidates
for the Republican presidential nomination choose to fulminate and bloviate on
this issue rather than do research and think of a practical solution. This shows that they are unworthy of high
office.
